Taxis in Tenerife

Most of the taxi ranks have big mini bus like taxis that can carry up to 8 people.

Taxis are not usually fitted with baby seats or child restraints, so if needed make sure you ask for one when booking. They can easily be fitted.

All taxi ranks in the popular tourist resorts have signs displaying the standard fare to most major destinations. They give you an idea of how much, on average, it will cost before you depart.

Taxi drivers in Tenerife are honest, and provide a high level of service at reasonable rates. You’ll be able check that they are official licensed taxis by the green light they display on their roof, and a small sign with the initials “SP” situated next to the number plate on the rear bumper.

Tenerife is divided into municipalities, and each has a certain number of taxis assigned to it. They can only pick-up in their own municipality, but they can transfer passengers to any part of the island. The vehicles are all white, with a council badge and the license number on both sides of the front doors. On the roof they have a green light that indicates the taxi is empty. All taxis in Tenerife are required to have a visible taximeter, which has to pass an annual inspection.

Since it’s a tourist island, you can find taxi ranks just about everywhere in Tenerife. There are many available in almost every town, resort, or at the airports. You can also order taxis at your hotel or apartment reception, or call one from your mobile phone using the number relating to your municipality below.

At both Tenerife South Airport (TFS) and Tenerife North Airport (TFN) you will find taxi ranks just outside the arrivals terminals. There are usually lots of taxis lined up and if there is a queue it tends to move quickly.
